How to save Marathon

Marathon is giving me Deja Vu. It’s the feeling that we’ve been here before with Bungie. Watching the Marathon launch feels eerily similar to the early days of Destiny 2—a developer missing the mark on player expectations and a community left wondering where the "fun" went. In this video, I’m moving past the dogpile to look at the four fundamental flaws currently sinking Marathon and, more importantly, how Bungie can pull the ship back before it runs aground.
We’re diving deep into "Bungie Hubris" and why a $40 price tag requires a level of polish this game hasn't met yet.
THE PROBLEMS:
The Unwelcoming Wall: Why the early game feels like a punishment rather than a challenge.
The Niche Meat Grinder: Why the current gameplay loop lacks the "storytelling" or memorable moments of games like Fortnite or Arc Raiders.
Identity Crisis: Why Marathon needs to admit it’s a PvE game at heart.
The Momentum Gap: Analyzing the 2026 Steam and PlayStation data that points to a dangerous trajectory.
THE PROPOSED SOLUTIONS:
I’m proposing a "Marathon 2.0" shift to save the game, including:
Faction-based onboarding and starter gear to respect player time.
Dedicated PvE, PvP, and Hybrid environments to broaden the appeal.
A total rethink of the "seasonal wipe" value proposition.
